Algebra and Trigonometry Workshops

Interactive practice materials for Math 1120/21 and Math 1148/49/50

These interactive video materials summarize and synthesize some of the most difficult or most important concepts in your course.  As you go through the workshop keep a look out for buttons which will lead you to more information.  You can go through the whole workshop or jump straight to the part you are having difficulty with.

You will get the most out of this workshop if you actively engage with the materials.  A workshop handout is available for you to take notes. We strongly suggest working through the workshop with a group of friends from your class if possible.

If you have a disability and experience difficulty accessing these online workshops, please contact us for assistance via email at mslc@math.osu.edu.

Algebra Workshops

This workshop will examine the ways in which we combine two functions to make a new function. We will look at combining functions algebraically, composition of two functions, and inverse functions.  Finding the domains of these new functions will also be explored.

Workshop

This workshop will help you understand the similarities and differences between polynomial and rational functions.  You will learn how to find important elements of the graphs of both polynomial and rational functions, as well as how to use those elements to construct the graphs of both types of functions.

Workshop

This workshop will review the rules for exponents and the relationship between exponents and logarithms. We will also look at some of the properties of both exponential and logarithmic functions, and techniques for solving exponential and logarithmic equations.

Trigonometry Workshops

Are you having trouble finding your "trig" identity? If so, this workshop is for you. We will look at some of the basic rules for verifying trigonometric identities and cover some useful tricks you can use to prove trig identities while practicing some different types of problems.

Workshop

Are you having trouble graphing sine and cosine equations?  This workshop can help!  We will look at how to find the Amplitude, Period, and Phase Shift as well as how to use those values to graph various sine and cosine equations.

Workshop

This workshop will show you some of the major tips and tricks to solving trig equations as well as how to think about solving equations containing trigonometric functions.

Workshop

This workshop will look at the inverse trig functions and how they are defined based on the sine, cosine, and tangent functions. We will also look at some of the pitfalls these functions can produce due to the way they are defined.

Workshop

This workshop covers how to use both the Law of Sines and the Law of Cosines, as well as how to identify when you should use them.
